57 Promenade is located at Thamrin, the heart of Central Jakarta’s business and entertainment district. The two newly completed apartment towers soar up above the bustling streets, standing as the embodiment of modern urban living.

It was here that we found ourselves embarking on a creative journey. We were tasked with designing a series of two and three-bedroom apartments for rent. The goal was to create flexible spaces to cater to the diverse needs and lifestyles of potential tenants. The challenge was to undertake the construction project with a modest budget, which meant that we had to be creative with our design details and material selections.

As we stepped into the bare units for the first time, we were greeted by the soft glow of sunlight filtering through the large windows. Ideas immediately came pouring in – a simple design with white painted walls, allowing natural light to bounce off surfaces, paired with wooden furniture, its golden-brown hue illuminated in daylight. The vision was clear in our mind – a bright and warm sanctuary where tenants would feel at home in the sometimes chaotic but charming heart of the city.

The entry foyer is meticulously designed to create a striking first impression. As you step out of the private lift, you are greeted by the main door, an imposing presence, finished in wood to add a touch of warmth. To the right, floor-to-ceiling mirror panels are strategically placed, their reflective surfaces create an illusion of a larger space.

On the opposite side, chalk-toned wall panels provide a soft contrast to the rich timber elements. Integrated seamlessly into the design, a shoe cabinet is discreetly placed to blend in with the panels. To top it all off, a wall light is added to cast a warm and inviting glow over the entrance.

Through the door, an open-plan living and dining room is immediately visible. A plush sofa in a soothing cream colour invites you to sink into its comfort. Nearby, a wicker armchair made with natural teak wood offers a stylish additional seating option. A soft-textured wool rug in subtle hue adds comfort and helps define the seating area, anchored by the low coffee table in dark-stained oak wood finish, standing proudly in the middle.

On the opposite end of the sofa, wall panels finished in oak wood textured laminate extends across the entire wall, transitioning seamlessly into a built-in cabinetry and a TV console. The material selection, combined with v-groove detail, mimics the look and feel of solid timber planks without the cost and maintenance associated with it.

The open-plan layout allows for a smooth flow of conversation and movement between the living and dining areas. The dining set up consists of a table made of natural teak wood, a couple of chairs and a matching bench. Behind the bench, an upholstered cushion hangs gracefully from a custom-made metal rod, securely anchored to the wall – a unique touch that adds both style and comfort.

The same oak wood textured laminate finish is used for the portal, designed to serve as a transition between the communal space and the private realms. It frames the corridor that leads down to the two bedrooms and baths. At the end of the corridor, an artwork hangs on the wall, illuminated by a recessed downlight installed in the ceiling. It casts a soft ambient light that accentuates the wooden textures and spills down to the floor.

The result is more than just a living space, it is a canvas upon which tenants can paint the story of their lives. Whether they are professionals in search of convenience or a family looking for a comfortable haven to call their own, the unit is designed to be an elegant and adaptable home tailored to their unique needs and lifestyles.
